The Employability Fund

The Employability Fund

This fund aimed to support local organisations helping to improve employability in the area. Organisations were invited to apply for funding to enhance the local delivery of services to increase employability in North Brixton. There were two strands within this programme, and projects needed to address at least one.

Strand 1: Building skills of local people
This strand aimed to reach out to those who were not yet in a position to be able to find work. It aimed to engage those who were hard-to-reach whatever their circumstances and to provide appropriate stepping stones to help them to become ‘work-ready’.

Strand 2: Helping people into work
This strand was for those who were ‘work-ready’, who had skills but perhaps not the knowledge or information needed to be able to find employment. Projects under this strand were expected to provide practical skills and experience to help people create their own pathways into employment or enterprise.

Grants awarded

We awarded five grants of up to £20,000 in 2014 to projects which supported strand 1. We found that there was greater need for local people who are further away from the jobs market, who often face multiple barriers to finding employment.
